Scotland’s first heavy snows of the winter caused travel disruption and school closures across the northeast yesterday (Lara Wildenberg writes).
Police urged motorists to take care following reports of vehicles becoming stuck, while dozens of schools in Aberdeenshire, Moray and the Highlands were closed or delayed the start of lessons.
The Met Office confirmed that 5cm of snow fell in Aboyne in Aberdeenshire and Altnaharra in the Highlands, while Dyce, near Aberdeen, had 3cm. Overnight figures showed a low of -9.1C in the Highlands.
Amid fears that some households will not be able to afford their heating bills, Aberdeen’s libraries provided shelter as part of the Warm Spaces initiative.
