It is known among teachers like me, ominously, as ‘the call’.
You have 24 hours to prepare. To make sure your books are marked and up to date, clearly displaying pupil progress over time.
To make sure your classroom is the tidy and productive, bright and welcoming place that it should be. To make sure your lessons for the next two days are as close to outstanding as physically possible.
All of this, in case you are visited by the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills – also known as Ofsted.
Ofsted has received some heat lately. And as I’ve seen the headlines, I can’t help but be reminded of my own traumatic experience as a teacher on the receiving end of inspections.
