A school linked to a teacher’s suspected suicide was condemned by her colleagues for poor pupil behaviour and failing leadership.
Hawick High School is conducting a review after Katherine Scouler, 53, a languages teacher, died while awaiting trial for allegedly assaulting a pupil. She is thought to have taken her own life.
Locals described Scouler as a “pillar of the community” and “one of the nicest people you would ever meet”.
Two thirds of teachers at Hawick High School warned during the school’s last inspection, in January 2020, that pupil behaviour was out of control. Only a quarter of the 62 teachers surveyed said that the school dealt effectively with bullying.
