Department for Education

This policy paper from the Department for Education outlines significant changes to teacher qualifications, with the aim of giving teachers the same status as doctors and lawyers. It includes plans to better develop and train the next generation of school leaders.

Policy proposals include making all schools in England move to holding academy status; a new funding system designed to benefit disadvantaged areas; and an end to the legal obligation for academies to have parents as governors.

It also advocates an accreditation system for teacher training that focuses on a teacher’s effectiveness in the classroom.
