Steve Oakes and Martin Griffin
This book is the culmination of five years’ work into the influence of character on performance, motivation, resilience and commitment. The authors claim that high performing pupils possess similar characteristics – such as vision, effort and the will to practice – and attempt to offer teachings techniques for equipping all pupils with these qualities.
They outline 40 activities that can be used to strengthen pupils’ performance for each quality, and argue that developing these qualities makes better learners, and happier and more productive people. Through these coaching activities pupils can develop the characteristics, habits and mindsets that will help them to realise their potential.
They suggest that the same activities have been used successfully on ‘hundreds’ of their own pupils in the past.
