Author(s):
Dr E.D Hirsch, Jr

Designed by Hirsch and the Core Knowledge Foundation, this book series offers illustrated guides to the essential knowledge outlined in the core knowledge sequence.

Similar in some respects to England’s national curriculum, the core knowledge sequence promotes giving all pupils a shared knowledge base that can create a common cultural identity and foundation of critical knowledge. The eight books are aimed at parents, teachers and pupils and cover the ‘core knowledge’ all children should possess at different ages.

Each book provides information and practical activities on stories and poems; common sayings; history and geography; maths; science; visual arts; and music, as well as suggestions for related readings and resources. The kindergarten and first grade books also include sections on how children learn to read.

In listing research, EdCentral makes no judgment or recommendation as to its quality, validity or methodology and none should be inferred. Through peer ratings left by education practitioners, EdCentral’s aim is to support the development of a repository of shared knowledge and experience.
