The Confederation of British Industry argues for devolving more power to schools and empowering school leaders, but within a system of effective safeguards that makes sure these freedoms are used effectively and not abused.

This report sets out the reforms that the CBI believes will help drive improvements in school governance and leadership. These include a renewed focus on the importance of governing bodies and the need to recruit governors who are confident, assured and have a wide range of capabilities.

The report also calls for the promotion of a culture of continuous professional development in the classroom and for current and future school leaders to have more exposure to, and experience of, the business world.
