Author(s):

The Refocusing Assessment resource provides a framework for developing a coherent, whole school approach to assessment that supports pupil learning. It also focuses on addressing the needs of pupils, how assessment can best support good pedagogy and practice, and supporting effective formative assessment approaches, particularly in Key Stage 3.

Developed jointly by NFER, ASCL, SSAT and the schools they work with, the resource provides a rationale for the need to refocus assessment, and explores some common assessment and inspection myths. It also offers key strategies for effective formative assessment.

Including advice from expert panels in English, mathematics, science, history, geography and modern foreign language to help support, challenge and structure a school’s approach, it can be used across all key stages.

In listing research, EdCentral makes no judgment or recommendation as to its quality, validity or methodology and none should be inferred. Through peer ratings left by education practitioners, EdCentral’s aim is to support the development of a repository of shared knowledge and experience.
